Challenge is set

We have a Challenge!!

welcome, hope you are well.

Corporate ironman is in PE in April 2014, 5 April 2014. we have decided to enter a team for nelson mandela bay business chamber. the 3 disciplines are 380m swim, 18m cycle and 4.2km run.

when we got to talking about it we decided to each do our own race, and not a relay race. so the challenge is now set, we have to do this!

i've asked Lesley aka little lesley, to train with me and do the ironman 70.3 in east london next year. i think she will agree, especially after the corporate challenge and we are planning to do the knysna half marathon in june. that is such a popular race and i'm hoping i will be ready for 21km in june - we'll see.

the swim in the sea still remains the biggest challenge to me, and i won't lie i am extrememly nervous of the 'washing machine' at the start of the race. but so is lesley, so we will conquor together!

are you training at all? if you have any tips on training for ironman, first time competitors in a triathlon or you are also starting out, please leave a comment - will be great to hear from you.

happy training

Getting one with the saddle

welcome back!

yesterday i went to my first spinning class. for those of you who don't know what spinning is, it is a cycling class where you ride in time to the music, with an instructor, and he/she pushes you very hard! it is certainly not for the faint-hearted.

as i am in a real training zone at the moment, i eagerly went to the 5am class. i was not disappointed and worked really hard. problem is that the seat and i have not yet made friends...... this made this mornings spinng class rather difficult. my seat is so very very uncomfortable and i have not been able to sit down (without flinching) for 2 days now!!

but the trainer advised me to keep going and work through the pain.

so the trainng continues, and i am very committed and excited about this challenge. hope you walk the journey with me.

have a good evening,

Just an ordinary girl

On Friday I decided to challenge myself to do the IRONMAN 70.3 next year. Now I'm no fitness freak, nor can I run 5km - but I'm at least a bit more active than a couch potato!

In 2007 I announced that I was going to climb Kilimanjaro later that year, and I could barely walk 6km then, never mind 6 days!! So I think this is about the same challenge. I have a year to up my running from 3km to 21km, learn to ride a bike for 90km and then the swim of 1.9km (thats the one making me the most nervous).

Life is all about challenges, and taking the opportunities given to you. Now I am just an ordinary girl, trying to make the most of an ordinary life. I will be recording my workouts and challenges along the way, and I hope you come along for the ride.

2014 Is turning out to be a very busy year. And I am so blessed. I will also be relaunching my ecommerce website, Scrapaholics, and am so excited to release my upgraded website. After some techincal difficulties, which saw the site down for 3 months, the final touches are almost done and I am excited to reveal the more integrated, visually great site. And, my sister and I are embarking on our own business too - watch this space for the release of our new ecommerce website.

Thanks for popping by, hope to see you soon

Starting the training

My training started on Saturday, for Ironman 70.3 2015. Its a year to get ready and i will need every day of this year!

I've been training a little bit on the running front. Doing interval training to increase my stamina. Running 3 minutes and walking 1 for a few weeks. On Saturday I decided to see how far I can run in 10 minutes. After 10 minutes I still felt good and was able to do a full 20 minutes. 2.7km in 20 minutes - that was pretty good going on my first attempt! I was thrilled.

Sunday I was back in the gym, ran for 20 minutes and did 2.7km again. Feeling good. Still doing powerplate, that machine is awesome! Love how tired my muscles get after a workout. I do 3 sets of arms and always do the planks. how about doing the 30 day plank challenge with me. More on that next time.

Heres to being, fit and healthy and enjoying the outdoors.

Thanks for stopping by
