a moment

I love this picture of Morgan, have used it so many times! it was taken last year, 22 January 201,1 at Aunty Janice's wedding. Morgan was a flower girl and wonderful Heather Stevens was the photographer and snapped this shot of her while we were all getting dressed. it is a real candid shot and just so perfect.

I used Graphic 45 papers for this layout, yummy communique range. I absolutely love their papers and always try to show people that you can use them in so many ways. i know a lot of scrappers don't want to/don't like to or don't know how to play with and experiment with their papers. i use everyday, coloured pictures and don't always scrap with a vintage style.

Here are a few close ups:

The red flowers pick up the photo mat and i thought the flower cluster just finished off the page nicely. For the g45 staples flowers i used the tim holtz distress blending tool and added some colour to them with ink.

Stamping is great on lo, adds interest.I also stamped around the photo mat, on the shaped vanilla cardstock. I alternated between stamped clock and rubon. i used the g45 ribbons to add texture to the page. the postage stamp is fussy cut and raised with foam tape to add dimension.

the hidden tag hold journalling of the day when Morgan was a flower girl. the border detail is punched with my new Knock outs border punch - just loving them!

i really didn't like this layout when i started, just wasn't coming together the way i imagined. After adding a few textures, dimensions and flowers it started to look like something! Guess the trick is to keep at it, play around with different elements until you find the one that fits. And remember, there really are no mistakes and very few 'rules' in scrapbooking - unleash your innerself......

Life Layout

I wanted to do a layout that spoke to the trauma we had been through, but without dwelling on it or making it a 'negative layout'. i could just have framed a black piece of cardstock if i wanted to!

since i don't do layouts of myself that often (and we should, do as i say not as i do!) i'm always telling people to preserve the memories of themselves too, coz one day your kids are going to want to see you too - not just themselves growing up. after all you are a very important part of their lives

Right, back to the layout. As i was saying, i don't scrap myself often so i thought something that refelected my personality would be good start. Pink, bling, happy, flowers - thats me! I put hidden journaling behind the photo, where i wrote a little letter to my daughter so its there, but very subtle.  i called the lo 'life' because these things happen and not just to other people. i would have called it 'surviviour' but that didn't fit in!

i embossed the alphas with bronze utee, to match the mirror embelishment.

I spritzed the vanilla cardstock, used for the photo mat

Tim Holtz "12 tags for 2012"

hi bloggers

if you have done  the Tim Holtz 12 tags of Christmas you will be interested to know Tim will not be doing that this year, after 5 years he is changing direction.

I am quite excited, because I have never been able to do the Christmas tags. Its just such a crazy time of the year, with so much going on - now I can go a tag a month and (hopefully) keep up to date!

The new blinkie is up on my blog, you can link in from there, or read about his new post here and hopefully you will be able to take part in the 12 tags for 2012.

Scrap Africa - new South African Blog

An awesome new blog, Scrap Africa, has been started showcasing South African talent. It was started by South Africans, for South Africans and you really should check it out.

Lets support this site and get our scrapbooking community showing the wonderful talent we have in our country!

They will be running challenges every second week and currently have a competition running, see below.

Welcome to Scrap Africa and our give-away

Hello everyone!
We are very excited to welcome you at our brand new challenge blog Scrap Africa!
Why did we start this blog? Simply because we want to showcase and celebrate the creative talent that we have in our beautiful land. At the same time we want to share it with the rest of the world and be inspired by others. While we will focus on scrapbooking in Southern Africa we hope that our challenges will attract scrappers from different parts of the world.
This is how it will work.
Every 2 weeks on Thursdays we will publish a new challenge for you. You will have 3 weeks to complete it. We will alternate sketch challenges for lay-outs with theme challenges. For our theme challenges you can create any kind of scrap object - it can be a lay-out, a card or an altered object as long as you follow the requirements of the challenge.

You can combine our challenges with challenges from other blogs.
Only make sure that you do not combine similar challenges together. You also cannot take part in two challenges on our blog with the same project (our challenges will overlap and therefore you cannot for example make a lay-out using our sketch and then enter same lay-out into the theme challenge on Scrap Africa).

Our design team will choose the best entries which we will feature on Scrap Africa blog. We will also choose someone to be our guest designer for one of the challenges.
We plan to have sponsors for our challenges. After every two challenges (a sketch and a theme challenge) we will randomly draw the prize winner among the participants.
We think that this new venture is something worth celebrating. And what is a celebration without a gift?

Copy the picture from this post and post it on your blog or in any other internet community.Tell your friends about Scrap Africa and our give-away. Then link your "hoot" with the linking tool at the bottom of this post and stand a chance of winning a gift pack with wonderful scrapbooking goodies to the value of R 300 from the authors of Scrap Africa.

***This give-away is open only for South African and Namibian scrappers. Only one entry per person.
Good luck and don't forget to check our first challenge!

little mom layout

I love this picture of Morgan, its quite old now but as she is growing so fast and she is becoming a real little girl and the maternal instinct of looking after her 'babies' is growing too! its so sweet to watch and always amazes me that we don't teach our girls to do this, it just comes so naturally. Very heartwarming!!

I took a piece of white cardstock and sprayed with dazzels (by Enmarc) - Brick Red colour.

Patterned paper used - Graphic 45 (yummy!!)
Hallowe'en in Wonderland - Jabberwocky
ABC Primer - Bedtime stories
G45 - but i cut the tile of the paper off and no idea which range it comes from!

Flowers:
Prima flower market printery #553265
Prima Essentials printery #552527
Petaloo mini canterbury assorted browing #1823.303

Ribbon - G45 trim staples
Bling - Prima Swirls Clear #535780

other - leaves and ink

happy scrappin', hope you are creating a new masterpiece
